Even before I heard the JBL L100 Century I knew it was going to be great. It was 1970, when hi-fi speakers all had drab cloth grilles, the L100 sported a brilliant orange 'waffle' pattern grille, and when every other speaker had grey or black woofers, the L100's was white. L100 grill all cleaned up. But I'm not even going to use the grill frames for these. Another 4311 repair. The L100 tweeter foams will be replaced. The L100's are quite a bit older than the 4311's I'd say. L100 grill without the foam. I cleaned them up for nothing! Maybe I can sell them as is on ebay. Pair of late model JBL L100 speakers. They are an original matching set with serial numbers 307748 and 307750. From what I have found out, JBL paired their speakers in even and odd consecutive numbers depending on day of the week they were made. Even the 123A-3 woofers are (odd) consecutive serial numbers - 118101 and 118103. They have been powered by a Sansui 9090DB receiver (also listed for sale, separately). I bought these about 10 years ago - the seller was intending to part them out but I wanted to keep them whole.
They had a lot of cosmetic blemishes which I addressed, however they are still not perfect or in like new condition. Please look at all the pictures to best get an idea of their condition. They have home made grille covers which I think look better than original. They are covered in modern acoustic speaker grille material. The left sides (bottom if placed vertical) had 4 holes (not all the way through) where stands were mounted. I sanded them down, filled the holes, stained with Minwax #224 walnut then coated with Minwax polyurethane.

The front face was repainted black giving special attention to preserve the foilcals with original stamped serial numbers. Some corners have imperfections as well as general scratches on the surfaces, though overall once setup they look very nice. The bottoms (when placed horizontally, how I used them) have scratches in the poly coat due to stands used. This can be sanded and coating reapplied if desired. When I first got them, the drivers also needed some attention. One tweeter was bad, I replaced them with a good pair of LE25-2 - one has a slightly pushed in dust cap, it doesn't affect the sound. Both original tweeters are included, they could be reconed to keep the entire set original.
